How to make Pulao.

/hihi

On some days, I feel so lazy that I don't even want to chew my food. I need something that I can just eat lazily. No fuss types.

When there's no time to stop by in the kitchen and you want something that is fast and easy, Pulao shall save your ass.

The method is simple.

Stuff required :

  • About half a cup of Cauliflower florets, cut and cleaned. If you're a newbie, just zoom into the pic.
  • 1 and half katori (size in pic)of rice, washed and soaked for atleast half an hour. (This is an important step)
  • 1/2 cup of peas. Even frozen ones will do.
  • An inch of ginger (chopped)
  • About 2 tsps of garlic (chopped)
  • 1 to 2 carrots, cut.
  • 2 Potatoes.
  • 1 Large Onion chopped.
  • The amount of water should be double the quantity of rice and the SAME measure should be used!
  • So ill put in 3 katoris of water. Preferably boiling.

SPICES:

  • 1-2 tspof Cumin
  • 1 tsp of Chilli powder
  • 1 tsp of Haldi
  • 1 to 2 tsp of salt.
  • 2 tsp of Dhania powder (the light green one)
  • 1 tsp of Garam Masala. (All spice powder)
  • Also I have used Bay leaf. Just one suffices.
  • And im using Mace. Its that orangey stuff. You can skip this.

Now the walk-through :

Im doing this in a Rice Cooker. You put it on "Rice Cooking" mode to heat it up.
So you put in the ghee.

Splutter the jeera. Then add the Bay leaf and Mace and cook for a few minutes so that it releases its flavours.

Now put in the ginger and garlic.

Then the Onions.

Then the masalas. Cook till golden brown.

Now put in your lovely veggies :)

After the veggies have been cooked a bit, pour in the water. Cover and cook for a few minutes.

Now put in the  drained rice.

Cover and cook.
This shall take about 15-20 minutes. Please dont stir, as it'll only break the rice.

The veggies should be cooked and tender and the rice soft.
You're done :)

NOTE:
The same recipe can be made in a cooker.
Just be a little careful about it burning. And it shall take 3-4 whistles. If its not done, just add a few tablespoons of water, close and cook.
The whistles should be on medium flame and the initial cooking on low flame.

More later!
